Football! Im so excited I could scream. Maybe I should take a rest, calm down and realize its just a game? No, its a lifestyle. Im sure many followers feel the same way. I have football in my blood. Although I feel like Uncle Rico from Napoleon Dynamite - I still cherish my playing days at Alta after capturing the state title in 2007.
The 2011 high school football season gets underway tonight with 49 games kicking off at 7 p.m. across the state. That means the weekly picks are back as well. Each week Ill be selecting eight games on the nightly slate and offer my thoughts on who I believe will emerge victorious.
After this opening week Id love to take on any reader that thinks they have what it takes to win.

Timpview at Alta
Im still a current resident in Sandy. I hear all the talk. Ive been involved with the Alta program since I was eight years old. I know the players, the coaches and the boosters. I know Alta football. All Ive heard for the past several years is how talent this group of kids is. Whether or not that will come to fruition is another story. Its hard to not buckle under pressure when you’ve been dubbed, as Vince Young would say, The Dream Team. One thing that Timpview has going for is a steady coaching staff. Alta has new coach Bob Stephens this season and could experience some hiccups in his first season at the helm of a program. If this game was at Timpview I would have picked the T-Birds. This game should be closer than the previous two matchups (Alta 31, Timpview 15 in 2009 and Timpview 41, Alta 27 in 2010), but my edge goes to the birds in black. Alta 28, Timpview 24.
