SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 Sports) - Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham announced today at his weekly press conference that the football career of junior running back and former Alta high school standout Sausan Shakerin has come to an end after suffering another concussion. Shakerin got hurt on the opening kickoff of the second half in Utah's 28-3 loss to Notre Dame.
"Sausan Shakerin is the big one," Whittingham said when adressing the team's injury report. "He has been medically disqualified from continuing his football career after multiple concussions. We were looking forward to him as the heir apparent, but that is a big change in plans."
After redshirting in 2008, Shakerin played in nine games for the Utes in 2009. He finished the season with 198 yards rushing and a touchdown. He also had four receptions for 42 yards and a score. His season highs in rushing and receiving came against New Mexico, rushing for 100 yards and a touchdowns with three receptions for 34 yards and a touchdown.
