As of tonight, we'll officially be in the second half of the 2010 high school football regular season. We can only hope our prognosticating skills improve as the season rolls on.
It is usually easier to figure things out down the stretch run, but something seems a little odd about this season. There seems to be more parity, which is always a good thing. The rest of the year, with region title and playoff races to follow, should be pretty fun.
TP: I'm starting to think that is has been one of the most unpredictable high school seasons thus far. It's not unreasonable to win a week in these picks with a .500 record. It's starting to get a bit frustrating, because every game is literally a toss-up at this point in time. Oh, well — I'm in second place right now, and I'll be looking inch closer to FNR after this week. Therefore, I'm going to switch up my philosophy. I'm usually verbally insulting both of my copartners on this blog as I ramble on with bad jokes. I'm going to keep it short and simple this week. It's all business.
JC: When will the madness end? After last week's abysmal 3-5 effort, I seriously considered going down to the train tracks and asking one of those hobos who hitch rides inside those ancient looking boxcars who they would pick for this week's games. I wised up, mainly because I didn't want to be shown up by a hobo. But these are desperate times and I am considering desperate measures to getting those winning juices flowing again. You'd think I ran a chicken farm the way I'm laying eggs each week in these picks. Trevor and Andrew are loving my rebuilding season. But, hey, I still have time to turn it around. Starting with a win this week.
Alta at Lone Peak
JC: Trevor was at it again this week. Instead of tackling shoppers at the mall, he went speeding throughout different neighborhoods in Cottonwood Heights, blaring a mix tape of Alta's fight song from his pickup, and screamed at random old ladies, 'We own your sorry Bengals!' What will he do for an encore celebration? I'm starting to get a little worried thinking about it. Anyway, this game could be more defensive in how it plays out than people might expect. Lone Peak is allowing just 11 points per game defensively. Alta boasts two of the state's top three tacklers in Rhett Sandlin and Nik Wolford. Granted, the Hawks couldn't stop Timpview or Bingham. Then again, how many teams can? Lone Peak struggled offensively against Highland and Bountiful, so that tells me the Hawks can cash in on their renewed defensive strength. Alta 13, Lone Peak 10
TP: Well it's embarrassing. I didn't know anyone one was watching me tackle people at the mall last week, but obviously I was wrong. Good work boys, couple of modern 007's working at the Deseret News. You have to admit that I had good form though. Anyway, I think Alta is finally starting to get things together. This will be a great game, but the Hawks will finally catch up with the loss column. Alta 28, Lone Peak 24.
AA: Trevor does have excellent tackling form. I can't deny him that. The Hawks are starting to get things in order, but I like the Knights at home tonight. Lone Peak 28, Alta 24.
