After three weeks loaded with great matchups in high school football, it's inevitable that we eventually hit a “meh” week. Welcome to it.

Not a ton of games that promise nail-biting finishes or great position battles. I'll tell you, though, there's one game with more storylines than “Love Actually” and “The Godfather” combined (that would be a heckuva partnership, eh?).

Back on track...

That game, of course, is Alta at Jordan. The Hawks find themselves 0-3 and facing their first 0-4 start since the year many of this year's seniors were BORN — 1992. Four teams in Region 4 have winning records, while the annual favorite has been beat up on in three consecutive weeks (although I maintain the Hawks should have won at Cottonwood).

On the flip side is Jordan. The Beetdiggers finally have a football team deserving of their all-world nickname. Quarterback McCoy Hill has been sensation through the preseason slate. If he can guide Jordan to a win over Alta, it signals a possible shift in Region 4 power — at least for this year.

Hill has already completed 50 passes for nearly 1,000 yards, while his Alta counterpart, Boston Handley, also has at times appeared to be one of the best quarterbacks in the state.

Should be a good game in the Sandy rivalry, especially given the implications. Alta coach Les Hamilton has maintained throughout the preseason that an 0-3 start, while crummy indeed, is acceptable as long as it prepares the Hawks for region play.

We'll find out tomorrow if it did.
