SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 Sports) - The Alta-Bingham rivalry game had gotten so big, they had to move it to Rice-Eccles Stadium. But no stadium in the country could contain Harvey Langi on this night.
Langi, rated as one of the best running backs in the entire country, rushed for 222 yards and four touchdowns as Bingham turned a 15-6 halftime lead into a 49-26 blowout. Langi scored on runs of 4, 4, 45 and 50 yards. Stephen Cantwell threw a 34-yard touchdown pass to Josh Smith, while Jared Afalava scored on a 20-yard interception return for Bingham, which scored 34 points in the 2nd half to turn a close game into a rout. Alta quarterback Boston Handley threw 3 touchdown passes two to Mitch Casey and one to Ammon Baker. Bingham, the defending 5A champs, won their 3rd straight game in the "black and blue" rivalry, while Alta dropped to 0-2 on the season. Earlier at Rice-Eccles Stadium, Chase Hansen ran for two touchdowns as Lone Peak defeated Mountain Crest, 23-13. |
