BYU Cougar's Toloa'i Ho Ching Plays Through Pain

by Quinn Gooch, Analyst

BYU landed one tough cookie when Alta High linebacker Toloa’i Ho Ching signed to play football with the Cougars last February. The  6′0″, 225-pound Cougar-to-be played virtually his entire senior season with a shattered knee cap.

A’i (pronounced Ah-ee), as he is known to his friends, underwent surgery on his knee in April and plans to gray shirt in 2010 and then serve a mission before starting his playing career at BYU. Although he played outside linebacker in high school, Ho Ching is projected as an inside backer in the Cougars’ 3-4 defense.

In our continuing series on the Cougars’ 2010 signing class, Deep Shades of Blue caught up with Toloa’i on Friday and spoke with him about his plans and what he hopes to eventually bring to the BYU program.
