11-13-2009 V-Alta Hawks-19 vs Bingham Miners-28

Alta started off scoring an early touchdown in the first quarter, then Bingham rolled off 22 unasnwered points putting Alta's back against the wall.  Alta looked great on paper beating Bingham in most stat categories except the most important category, points.  #11 Jordan Brown passed for 341 yards and 3 TD's.  #10 Tyron Morris was on the recieving end of many of those passes catching 6 for 162 yards and 2 TD's.  #1 Zach Liston hauled in 5 catches for 95 yards and one TD on a diving catching in the corner of the end zone.  Bingham's defense was a stone wall against Alta's 36 rushing attempts for a mere 56 yards.  Uncharacteristically, Alta struggled to put points on the board while in the red zone.

Alta's defense played well and held Bingham's star running back #21 Harvey Langi to just 84 yards rushing and 34 of those came on one run around the right end.  Alta also contained the back up QB that comes in to run the ball in a wild-cat type offensive set. Bingham pulled a surprise on Alta in the 1st quarter running a fake punt to inside the 20 yard line.   #28 Parker Morrison led Alta with 9 tackles followed by #5 Cole Herrmann with 8 and #41 Nik Wolford with 7.

Final Score Bingham 28 Alta 19.  Alta finishes off the season with a 10-3 record and falls short of a 3-Peat State Championship.

11-6-2009 V-Alta Hawks-37 vs Cottonwood Colts-13

It was November 6th, but it felt like September 6th. Mother Nature was kind giving us a fantastic sunny, warm day for a playoff football game. Cottonwood tried to find a new mojo by ditching the Sesame Street Big Bird colored uniforms they wore in the opening game on August 21st and went with the all-white look, plus they had an axe to grid after getting crushed 59-20, but none of that mattered as Alta proved to be the Powerhouse they are by dominating on both the offense and defense side of the ball. Great job Hawks players and coaching staff! Alta wins again 37-13. Cottonwood's punter kicked the ball well and every punt seemed to hit an roll another 30 yards trapping the Alta offense deep in thier own territory with every offensive start. Not to fear #11 Jordan Brown is here and picked apart the Colts defense, going 19-for-24 for 416 yards and three touchdowns. At one point Brown completed 16 consecutive passes in the victory. Kudos to the Alta offensive coaching staff with some excellent play calling all nigtht long that kept Cottonwood off balance. #4 Skyler Mayne & #10 Tyron Morris made some great catches on the night.  Morris converted two of those into TD's with great running after the catch. #1 Zach Liston had eight receptions for 186 yards with a spectacular catch over the middle where Liston out jumped the DB for the ball, and also had some running yards after catch. Speaking of running, everyone was talking about Cottonwood's running game, well take a look at #23 Taylor Eyring, who is a shifty, spinning, and slippery runner and seems to get 3 extra yards every time he runs on just pure hustle and extra effort. #3 Brian Finnerty was equally as frustrating to the Cottonwood defense running it right up the gut for big yards. The Alta Defense shut down Cottonwood's offense and running game limiting them to two field goals early in the game. Cottonwood never scored again until 18 second left in the game for thier only touchdown. Solid defensive performances from #41 Nik Wolford, #21 A'l Ho Ching, #28 Parker Morrison, #20 Eric Enslow, and #6 Austin Lee.

Next up is Bingham. Semi-finals, schmemi-finals, let's not kid around here, this is the State Championship game. The ranking experts all have Bingham ahead of Alta. Give Bingham credit, they are a very good team and Alta is the underdog, but don't under estimate Alta, they are a big game team, expect them to rise to the challenge and give Bingham a surprise. We'll just call it the Alta Secret Sauce!! Boo-Ya!! Go Hawks!

10-30-2009 V-Alta Hawks-38 vs Fremont Silver Wolf-14
Alta looked solid against Fremont and easily handled the Silver Wolf team from Region 1. #23 Taylor Eyring gained 99 yards on 18 carries while #3 Bryan Finnerty rushed for 80 yards and capped the game off with a two-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter. #11 Jordan Brown was 18-for-26 with 219 yards through the air with 55 yards on the ground as the Hawks totaled 253 rushing yards. Alta's recievers had another excellent night with #4 Skyler Mayne catching 5 balls for 89 yards, #10 Tyron Morris catching 6 for 70 yards, and #1 Zach Liston catching 5 for 45 yards.  Alta dominated in the second half of their first round playoff win with a stingy defense. #28 Parker Morrison had 5 tackles and a sack, #91 Colten Page had 3 sacks, #58 Beaver Ho Ching nabbed his first interception of the season while #18 Rhett Sandlin had 6 tackles and picked a pass at the 1-yard line and returned it 36 yards when Fremont was on the move. #5 Cole Herrmann and  #20 Eric Enslow each had 5 tackles and #6 Austin Lee had 6.

10-23-2009 V-Pleasant Grove Vikings-20 vs Alta Hawks-23
Alta was sluggish on offense and defense in the 1st half.  Even the Alta fans were quiet.  Coach Hamilton's wife had to run up and down the bleachers in the 2nd half cheering and encouraging the crowd to get into it.  She brought the crowd to life.  Nice work, Mrs Hamilton!  Alta stepped it up in the second half trailing 20-10, the offense mounted two excellent drives in the 4th quarter scoring a touchdown and a field goal.  They executed a play that sneaked the tight end #83 Steven Richards out against the flow of the defense for a wide open catch in the corner of the end zone.  #11 Jordan Brown was back at QB after missing 3 games due to injury, he was 18-33 for 238 yards.  #1 Zach Liston was the leading reciever catching 6 balls for 121 yards.   The two clutch players in this game were #22 Braden Payne and #90 Vance Bingham.  Payne blocked an extra point attempt by the Vikings in the 1st half, then blocked a field goal attempt in overtime putting the Hawks in a great position to seal the win.  That is where field goal kicker Moose Bingham comes into play, he drills a 37 yard field goal late in the 4th quarter to tie the game an put it into OT, then he drills the 40 yard field goal in OT to win the game.  Nicely done Vance Bingham, kudos to you for nailing it when we needed it most and with the pressure on!

10-22-2009 JV-Alta Hawks-13 vs Pleasant Grove Vikings-21

10-22-2009 S-Pleasant Grove Vikings-7 vs Alta Hawks-48
The Alta sophomores officially laid claim as probably the best 10th grade team in the state as they completed a perfect 9-0 season today at PG. With Wins at Bingham and Riverton earlier this year, it’s hard to imagine a better group of 10 graders anywhere in Utah. Today once again the Hawks scored in all three phases of the game, and all three phases dominated from start to finish. Even with 7 to 10 players looking on with injuries, it just didn’t seem to matter as the Hawks built a 27-0 halftime lead and went on to win by a final score of 48-7. All but two games this year had the 35 point blowout rule in effect in the second half. Congratulations to the sophomore players and coaches on the undefeated season. It will certainly be fun to see these young men playing on Friday nights over the next two years. The future of Alta football looks very bright indeed!
