Coach Bob Stephens, has been a part of the Alta Football program since 1998 and has helped lead Alta to two State Championships (2007 & 2008). Coach Stephens began his coaching career with Provo High School in 1997 working with the Offensive line. He has held the roles of Head JV Coach, Offensive-line coach and Defensive-Line coach at Alta.
Coach Stephens started playing football at the age of eight and received all CIF awards during High School. Last checked, he still holds weight lifting records at his high school in La Mirada, CA. He played center for Brigham Young University from 1987 to 1990. During his college career he received the All-Western Athletic Conference award and was Heisman Trophy winner, Ty Detmers center.
Coach Stephens was raised in La Mirada, California, and graduated from La Mirada High School in 1987. He received a bachelor’s degree in Wildlife and Range Resources from Brigham Young University in 1992 and a master’s degree in Biological Education also from Brigham Young University in 1998.
He currently teaches biology and wildlife classes at Alta where he is considered an outstanding teacher. This is Coach Stephens 2nd year as the Head Coach of Alta and he is excited to continue with the traditions of Alta Football.
Bob and his wife Jennifer are parents of two daughters, Sarah and Caroline and a son, Adam.
After leaving coaching for a dozen years, Coach Berry returned in the 2006 season to coach wide receivers. As Hamilton said, "Doug Berry is Alta football." He was Alta's head football coach from the time the school opened in 1978 until 1994 and won two state championships and one runner-up trophy. Coach Berry, who's father, Rex, was a star for the San Francisco 49ers, was an All-American wide receiver at Southern Utah, where he still holds most of the school's receiving records. He graduated from Jordan High and eventually served as Jordan's head football coach for seven years. He also has coached track, basketball, and tennis. He teaches physical education at Alta. Coach Berry and his wife, Lori, have nine children and 18 grandchildren.
Coach Ditty starts his 2nd year at Alta in his 16th year of coaching.
Prior to Alta he spent two years coaching the secondary at Timpview HS winning two strait region championships and the 2009 4A state title. Before Timpview, he served as the Co-Def Coordinator at Moorpark College in So Ca. While there he coached nationally ranked teams to consecutive Bowl games, winning the WSC title in 2007.
Previous to Moorpark Coach Ditty was Def Coordinator at Reseda High School in LA City CIF section where his defense's were consistently ranked in the top ten. Prior to that he coached LB's at perinial Northern California power Nevada Union HS in Grass Valley.
As a position coach he has produced many all-league and all-state players resulting in a great number of college scholarships. He is grateful and excited to show up to practice every day to work beside these coaches and prepare these young men for competition and for life. He lives in Lehi with his wife Kimberly, daughter Ashley, son Tony and his Husky Shyah. Ditty joins the Alta staff this year in his 16th year of coaching.

Coach Coggins is in his 4th year as a coach at Alta High School coaching the offensive line. He also coaches the deep snappers. Coach Coggins grew up in the Ogden area where he was an All-State Defensive Tackle and Tight End for 1985 State Champion, Weber High School Warriors. After high school, he moved on to Dixie Junior College where he played Defensive End.
He then transferred to BYU where he moved to the Offensive Line playing Guard and Center and also handled all the deep snapping duties, earning him the team honor of 1989 Special Teams Play of the year. Coach Coggins has been an attorney for eighteen years and is a partner in the law firm of Coggins, Larreau & Lythgoe, in Ogden, Utah. Coach Coggins now resides in Draper with his wife Paula, daughters, Jantzee (former Alta High Head Varsity Cheerleader), Rylee (former Alta Cheerleader and Softball Player) and his son Cannon (future Hawk).
Coach Lui is a graduate of Hug High School in Reno, Nevada. He earned his Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice at the University of Nevada and an MBA from the University of Phoenix. Owner of Tiki’s Hawaiian Kitchen. His previous high school football coaching experience includes five seasons at Hug High School and now entering his 4th season at Alta High. Enjoys Deep Sea Fishing and Golf. Coach Lui and his wife Laura (an Alta High Alumni) are the parents of two children Sonatane Fehoko Vavasa and Salina.
Ty Smith is in his 3rd year coaching at Alta High School. He is the quarterback coach and Head JV Coach. Before coming to Alta, he was an assistant football coach and head girls track coach at Petal High School (6A) in Petal, Mississippi. He attended high school in Natchez, MS and grew up playing football, baseball, basketball, and track. After high school he attended Copiah Lincoln Community College in Wesson, MS and played quarterback for 2 years. He graduated from The University of Southern Mississippi with a Bachelors degree in Exercise Physiology and earned a Masters degree in Sport Coaching Education. He is the Physical Education teacher at Albion Middle School.
Coach Casady is in his sixth year with the Alta coaching staff. A former offensive lineman (center), his coaching experience includes two years at his alma mater, Hillcrest, and several years with the Ute Conference. He is a partner in a packaging manufacturing company specializing in products for the medical and personal care industries. He is also active on a variety of boards and commissions including the University of Utah Hospital Foundation. Coach Casaday served in the military for eight years and remains involved in military/community affairs and organizations. Coach Casaday is the proud father of five children, two of which are Alta graduates; Whitnie (Tyler), Brady (Nikki), Marlee, Riley and Lexi and is married to the lovely and talented Kimberlee. They are expecting their first grandchildren (twins) in December.
Coach Keim will be coaching the Sophmore O-line. He has coached in the Alta little league program for the past 6 years. Coach Keim played Offensive Tackle for Mesa Community College in 1984, and for BYU from 1987-90. He played 2 years for the New Orleans Saints and 4 years for the Seattle Seahawks. He is currently the owner of Teriyaki Grill, a small restaurant chain started by him and his wife Tiffany when his NFL career ended. they have 5 locations in Utah and 1 franchise store in Lousianna. Mike and Tiffany have 4 children, Courtney (Junior at Alta), Brayden 8th grade, and twins Avarie and Ella 5th grade.
Coach Woods played football for the original Alta football coach, Doug Berry, and played football in different leagues for many different teams. Coach “Woody” has been active in the Alta Little League for the last 9 years and he has also coached wrestling at Alta High for the last 17 years.
As his full-time job, he owns Andrew Woods Plumbing. He is been married for 18 glorious years to the most amazing wife, Rachelle Woods. They are the proud parents of 4 children, two girls Tysha & Tacee (currently attending Alta High - Tysha) and two boys - Dallon & Dawson. He states that everything good in his life is due to having a supportive wife and kids. Coach Woody is excited to be here at his alma mater and helping out with the team.
Coach Troy Apolonio comes to the Alta staff with much excitement and eagerness. He wrestled and played soccer in high school. He attended Weber State University and was in the accounting program when his career opportunity came from Chick-fil-A. He has been an Owner/Operator of a Chick-fil-A restaurant for nearly 16 years. He enjoys fishing, the outdoors, golf, and of course, football - playing, watching, and fantasy. Coach Apolonio has been married to Shan for 14 years and they have two children - Taylor and Kobe.
I grew up in Texas around the Houston area. My dad was a high school football coach for 20+ years. I graduated from Coldspring-Oakhurst Consolidated high school where I was a three year starter both ways on varsity. My senior year I was an All-State Texas linebacker and I was Deep East Texas Definisive MVP (along with Brian Robison who now plays defensive end for the vikings across from Jared Allen). I played one year of college football at East Texas Baptist University in Marshall, TX as a linebacker. After that I moved to Utah to finish my degree in software engineering at Neumont University and I started coaching football along the way starting in the Ute Conference at Alta. After four years of Ute Conference experience. I was the hired by Alta to be the sophomore RB coach for two years and the varsity RB coach for two more years. I went to Hunter for a year to be the Sophomore Head Coach and now I'm exstatic to be back at Alta were I belong.
Coach Moran joins the Alta staff this year in his 10th year of coaching. Coach Moran comes to us after serving as the Varsity Defensive Ends coach and Sophomore Defensive Coordinator at Juan Diego High School. Previously (2005-2010) Coach Moran served as JV Head Coach, JV Defensive Coordinator, JV Offensive Coordinator and Varsity Defensive Line Coach at Hillcrest HS. Prior to that, Coach Moran served has Varsity Defensive Line coach at Marist High School, Chicago Illinois.
Coach Moran’s playing career began at Marist High School Chicago where he played Linebacker and Tight End on the Illinois State 6A runner up 1987 team. Coach Moran was able to continue his career at Ball State University (1988-1993) where he lettered at Nose- Guard and Defensive Tackle and participated in the 1989 California bowl.
After graduating, Coach Moran returned to his High School Alma Mater and then entered the business world. Currently, coach Moran is the Owner of Sweet Home Chicago Pizza, South Jordan and Midas Auto Service Experts in Murray, Kearns and Bountiful. Coach Moran holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Ball State University and a MBA from the University of Utah. He has been married to Renee Moran for 19 years and the couple has four children Mckenzie (11), Mason (8), Rachel (5) and Riley (5).
