It was November 6th, but it felt like September 6th. Mother Nature was kind giving us a fantastic sunny, warm day for a playoff football game. Cottonwood tried to find a new mojo by ditching the Sesame Street Big Bird colored uniforms they wore in the opening game on August 21st and went with the all-white look, plus they had an axe to grid after getting crushed 59-20, but none of that mattered as Alta proved to be the Powerhouse they are by dominating on both the offense and defense side of the ball. Great job Hawks players and coaching staff! Alta wins again 37-13. Cottonwood's punter kicked the ball well and every punt seemed to hit an roll another 30 yards trapping the Alta offense deep in thier own territory with every offensive start. Not to fear #11 Jordan Brown is here and picked apart the Colts defense, going 19-for-24 for 416 yards and three touchdowns. At one point Brown completed 16 consecutive passes in the victory. Kudos to the Alta offensive coaching staff with some excellent play calling all nigtht long that kept Cottonwood off balance. #4 Skyler Mayne & #10 Tyron Morris made some great catches on the night. Morris converted two of those into TD's with great running after the catch. #1 Zach Liston had eight receptions for 186 yards with a spectacular catch over the middle where Liston out jumped the DB for the ball, and also had some running yards after catch. Speaking of running, everyone was talking about Cottonwood's running game, well take a look at #23 Taylor Eyring, who is a shifty, spinning, and slippery runner and seems to get 3 extra yards every time he runs on just pure hustle and extra effort. #3 Brian Finnerty was equally as frustrating to the Cottonwood defense running it right up the gut for big yards. The Alta Defense shut down Cottonwood's offense and running game limiting them to two field goals early in the game. Cottonwood never scored again until 18 second left in the game for thier only touchdown. Solid defensive performances from #41 Nik Wolford, #21 A'l Ho Ching, #28 Parker Morrison, #20 Eric Enslow, and #6 Austin Lee.
Next up is Bingham. Semi-finals, schmemi-finals, let's not kid around here, this is the State Championship game. The ranking experts all have Bingham ahead of Alta. Give Bingham credit, they are a very good team and Alta is the underdog, but don't under estimate Alta, they are a big game team, expect them to rise to the challenge and give Bingham a surprise. We'll just call it the Alta Secret Sauce!! Boo-Ya!! Go Hawks! |
